Choosing a HVAC contractor is not a difficult task. Actually a few phone calls can lead you in the right direction. There is hundreds of HVAC contractors in the phone book, but I would avoid calling any of them.

I strongly recommend 4 options to choose a HVAC contractor which are listed below:

1. Call the Carrier local representative near you. Yes, That is Carrier Corp. Ask for the names of a few Carrier dealers in your area. The reason I suggest this, is to become a Carrier Dealer, 70% of your workforce has to be NATE  (North American Technician Excellence, Inc. ) certified. NATE Certification is a Non-Union certification, that proves the employees have past a test to ensure they have the knowledge to install/service your AC system.

Keep in mind, you don't have to buy a Carrier Air Conditioning system. The reason for contacting carrier is to filter out good contractors.

As an added bonus to calling Carrier Corp., Carrier's dealers have a requirement /quota to hand out customer satisfaction brochures, which carrier keeps a close eye on. So, in other words, you will not be pointed into the direction of a bad contractor.

2. Call NATE directly. Their Website can be found here.

3. Call your local  Plumbing Union Hall. Usually it is a plumbers, or a pipefitter union. Union mechanics are required to participate in clases and are registered Journeymen. In New Jersey, you can click here.

4. WORD OF MOUTH is the only other way I would suggest before calling out of the Phonebook.

Good Luck with your Decisions.
